Trayter and Villar top Open de Espana overall

For a second consecutive year, the Park Moret in Huelva hosted the third round of the mountain bike cross country competition Open de Espana on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Marc Trayer (Radikal Bikes) confirmed his status as a leader of Open de Espana by winning the third test of the mountain bike competition. Anna Villar (Ayala Team) took the victory in the elite women’s race confirming her first place overall
Trayter won the competition partially due to the bad luck of Carlos Coloma (Wild Wolf Trek), who flew down the course and dominated the race from the start. However, a broken chain forced him to push his bike for several meters until he could repair it, therefore, losing his chances of success. But, eventually, he managed to hold on to the third position.
Trayer, meanwhile, shock David Lozano (Bikes Esteve) off and claimed his first Open de Espana victory, topping the overall with 467 points, followed by his fellow Catalan with 375 points on second. Coloma, who crossed the finish line at over a minute and a half, placed third overall with 330 points.
In the elite women’s race, Anna Villar achieved her second consecutive win in Open de Espana, surpassing Sandra Santanyes (Bikes Esteve) by more than two minutes and Mercé Pacios (Ambisist), who came four mintes behind the winner. The three women occupy the same top three positions in the overall, with 555, 490 and 438 points respectively.
The fourth and penultimate round will take place within two weeks, on May 15 in Avilés (Asturia).
