3 200 participants have already signed up for the 17th edition of Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike which takes place in the Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal. Among them are three well known mountain bikers as well as many famous skiers.  

 

Former marathon world champion Alba Lakata, this year’s marathon world championships bronze medalist Mirko Celestino and last year’ s Dolomiti Superbike winner Urs Huber placed in the top three of the UCI world rankings, are at the start in Niederdorf on July 9, 2011. Last year the Swiss rider won the race with a 25 seconds advantage over Celestino. Alban Lakata on the other hand, defeated Celestino at the World Championships by just five seconds. Top representatives in the women’s race include this year’s Cape Epic winner Sally Bingham and Birgit Söllner, Germany’s runner-up marathon champion and six-time Tour de France entrant. 

 

This year’s Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike will gather the ski world champions as well. These include the super-G world champion and combined World Championship runner-up Christof Innerhofer, his team-mate Werner Heel, the super-G world runner-up champion in 2005, Lucia Recchia as well as the South Tyrolean Sportswoman of the Year 2010 and Olympic fourth in the Super-G Hanna Schnarf. 

 

Elites and U23 participants have two routes to choose from prior to the race: the 111 km race at about 3 357 meters and the shorter distance of 60 kilometres at 1 591 meters. 

 

The children's race "Dolomiti Superbike Junior Race" takes place on Sunday, July 10, 2011. The real mountain bike action kicks off on Saturday. The bringing forward of the race from Sunday to Saturday was necessary to avoid an overlap with the Maratona dles Dolomites to be held on the Sunday.
